How To Train Your Dog To Ring A Bell
When your dog wants to go out to relieve herself, she will try to communicate it to you with her body language that you dont recognize. If you train your dog to ring a bell, you can help her to communicate to you her need to go outside to relieve herself.
Before you begin training your dog to ring a bell, go to your local craft store and buy some bells. String the bells in one cord.
After you have string the bells to one cord, hang it on the door that your dog used to go outside to relieve herself. Make sure the cord is attached securely on the door at your dogs eye level.
The next morning, when you let your dog out to relieve herself, ring the bell before opening the door for her. You can initiate the bell ringing by telling your dog, "I have to go out." Your dog will understand you.
Next time, the dog will learn to associate the bell ringing as a way of communication to tell you her need to go outside to relieve herself. When your dog sniffs at the bell, praise her and give her a treat.
Another method is by teaching your dog to target. Extend your hand at her nose level. When she touches your hand with her nose, reward her with a treat and praise her. Keep repeating this exercise over several training sessions.
When your dog is reliably touching your hand with her nose, hold the bells on the door and say "Touch." Repeat this several times until your dog consistently tap on the bell. If your dog refuses to touch the bell, smear some delicious foods that she loves to eat, for example peanut butter, on the outside of the bells.
Every time your dog wants to go outside, walk her to the door. Ask your dog to touch the bell before opening the door. You may hang the bells on other doors that you used to take your door out for a walk. You are to ask her to ring the bells each time she exits.
If you have been continuously training your dog, your dog will learn to pick up the trick after a week or so. Once your dog has learned how to ring the bell on cue, wait for her to ring the bell each time before you go out with her. In this way, your dog will perceive that she may ring the bell without you giving the command to do so and that you will open the door for her. When your dog does ring the bell, praise her and immediately open the door to let her go outside. Continue to praise your dog each time your dog rings the bell and when she returns to indoor from outside.
Bell training is not a difficult task although it requires a lot of consistency. The bell ringing trick is suitable to be taught to puppies and dogs that are already toilet trained. If you start early and are patience, it is possible to train your dog to ring a bell whenever she wants to be let outside to relieve herself.

We have a tendency to want to pull or strangle our dogs and put constant pressure on their collar, which forces them to pull back. If you grab and pull someone, they pull away, it is instinct. Don’t pull on your dog! Make it almost impossible for you to strangle your dog by using the opposite hand to hold the leash. Put treats into your left hand so that you can reach down and put them in front of your dog’s nose. Admittedly, this takes some grace and skill which may elude you at first, but with practice you will get it down.Loose Leash Step 2
With the leash in your right hand, draped across your body and hanging loosely from your dog’s collar, grab a handful of treats and stick them next to your dog’s nose and lure him forward 3 steps with the treat, then stop and release the treat. Continue doing this for two to three steps at a time. You may also start to ask him to sit when you stop. Once your dog has the idea, you can begin taking more steps. If your dog chooses to be next to your leg and is not pulling, reward with praise and treats. Change your pace, make some left and right turns and make this fun by rewarding your dog for following your hand.Loose Leash Step 3
If your dog is not paying attention, play a fun game of keep away! If my dog is not watching me and starts to go forward, I turn around and change my direction. My dog will soon wonder where I went and try to catch up to me. If he looks to the left and I think he is going to start to go that direction, I go to the right.

This is a training exercise, don’t expect to go on an actual walk with a destination. You will be changing your direction and turning around often so understand that distance is not the goal. Walking in a straight line is BORING!! Even at its best, or fastest pace one direction is a yawn fest for your dog, which is why his nose wanders and he tries to find something else to entertain him. Stimulate his mind by changing your direction, making a circle to the left or to the right, throw in some left turns and some right turns, stop and ask him to sit or down. If you mix in some obedience and turns, it makes it fun and exciting for your dog, your dog will never know what is coming next so he is more likely to pay attention to you. He lives for diversity, give it to him and make it fun! 
If you teach him that sticking by your side and following you around is exciting and fun and brings rewards and praise, he will choose to be there by you. If he drifts off and looks like he is going to begin to pull, go the other way. If you are having problems, ask yourself if you are boring him to tears, and if the answer is “yes”, then make it more fun for each of you. I sometimes feel the same. When I get home from work I cant wait to see my dogs. I go home almost everyday for lunch, just to check on them and play with them and then when I get home at 5:00, no matter how bad my day was, they make me happy. When my husband is out of town they sleep in my bed with me and sometimes even when hes in, we share our bed with the two of them. We talk about them to our friends like they are our kids. Wait!!! They are our kids!

I understand that completely. Dogs dont hurt their owners, they think their owners are the BEST THING in the world! Look how happy they are to greet you everytime you come home. They dont care what your mood is, they even sympathize when youre sad. They are SO MUCH SMARTER than some human beings. Im glad you have such loyal friends, its too bad all people dont choose to welcome this love into their lives!

Ive been hurt by dogs. Ive been bitten twice in none-provoked situation. Do I love them less?
Absolutely not. The only reason they were biting was because human failure was to blame.
One was a severely abused and neglected rescue dog, which ended up getting only TLC but no structure or guidance at the foster home. He ended up being a biter. I gotten out of my car, the foster parent neglected to secure the dog, knowing hes dangerous... dog walked up, I turned around and he bit my inner thigh, locked jaw and started to rip.
The other one was also known for aggressions and when I walked into the home, the owners failed to secure the dog. He ran up to me and bit me in my tummy.
Do I hate dogs? OH HECK NO! I love them so much, it hurts.
I train them, I rescue them, I rehabilitate them, I educate about canine.
Do I love them more then my family, my human friends?
No.
However, I do still trust them more then some humans.
They are good at heart, they love me without wanting anything in return, its uncondionally, and honest.

Try to trust again. You feel secure and safe to love only your dogs. Dont isolate yourself. Love both, humans and dogs.

I dont think its bad. Dogs give us unconditional love and never question us. My dog is more important to me and my husband than just about anyone else. We will stay home with the dog rather than be around certain people. When we go on vacation we hire a person to stay at our house with our dog so she will be comfortable in her surroundings. Dogs have become another family member to lots of people, not just a pet.
It is not bad at all! From the universe creation point there is no difference between the values of a human life and a dog life.

Well their obviously the closet thing you have in your life to you, if you had a partner or kids they would always come 1st, i love my cats and my dog that passed away last year but some things just come naturally more important them in life.
Some of us can relate, but just make sure you are being mentally healthy. Dogs are just that, dogs. You can show them affection, take care of them physically, etc..but like all things, that relationship will end at some point. You dont want to alienate "real" relationships with humans just because you are fearful.

You should not use your dogs name any in another way than a babys name. For example, if you name a childs name, he might acknowledge that he hears you (should youre lucky), but his doubtless response will be to name again, "What?" He in all probability will not even look up from the video game or no matter else he was doing once you referred to as his name. You will need to follow up with an instruction; tell him what you need: "Bobby! Stop enjoying that sport and do your homework!" (Then he may or might not do as you ask, relying on how well hes been trained.)
Read this lesson first, and then practice it with your dog:
First, load up your pocket (or a bag or pouch) with 20 or so treats.
- Take your dog to an area the place there receivedt be numerous distractions.
- Wait in your dog to look at something other than you, then say his identify (once!).
- When he seems at you, instantly give him a treat and say "Good!" (Or no matter youve chosen as the first reinforcer, phrase or clicker. Were going to simply use "Good!" in our coaching examples.)
- Now move a number of steps to another location and again wait for your Dog to be trying away from you.
- Say your dogs title again and immediately reward him again with the treat and reward when he seems at you.
- Repeat this course of 5 times. If your Dog was notably distracted earlier than responding to his title, give him additional praise and treats
In case you say his identify and he doesnt look at you, he could also be too distracted. Transfer him a number of paces to a special location and try again.
Say his name. Use an enthusiastic tone of voice. Give rapid rewards if he appears at you.
If he still doesnt respond to his identify, clap your hands, whistle or make some other attention-getting sound. When he seems to be, say his title again and instantly give the rewards. Do this as a last resort. You want him to learn to reply to his name, not the other sounds.

Have some of your dogs favourite treats at hand. If you have any cue you know of to get your dog to bark that you and he have learnt naturally, use this to get the dog to bark initially, so..
1. old cue (something he already barks for i.e. whos there)
2. give him treat
do this a few times then introduce a new cue, i.e. speak, so..
1. new cue (speak)
2. old cue (whos there)
3. give him a treat
You will then eventually fade the old cue out, so..
1. new cue (speak)
2. give him a treat
It shouldnt take long, do lots of short practices with it, dogs love it when they realise what it is you want them to do for the treat. Clicker training is very good and rewarding too.
Use treats and he will soon catch on
hi I have trained only one of my dogs to do this, but my other dog rolls over.
It take patience but what I did was sit with bits of her fav food and gave her the command "speak" once she was sitting and paying attention. If she made any noise but stayed still I gave her a treat. In about 4-5 days of praticing with her for 1/2 hour a day she started to bark so she gots lots of fuss and lots of treats. I carried on doing this everyday (and please do not do it at the same time of the day ever day otherwise you will have an alarm clock not a "speaker") for another 5 days, everytime she barked. Now I say speak and she speaks wether I have a treat or not.

Dogs are animals that deserve respect, they are not trophy playthings you know.
I have taught my dog to:
- Speak
- Whisper
- Talk
You should:
1) have plenty of treats on you!
2) start with speak. if you start barking, your dog is going to too, when your dog barks, say speak, goodboy! and give him a treat. Do this multiple times, your dog will soon catch on.
3) do the same above but whisper bark, when your dog barks sofly, say whisper and give a treat, repeat.
4) now work on talk get your dog to bark several times by using the same above method. Give treats, and repeat.
My black lab learned this very easily, but every dog is different. Good luck!
I did this by giving my dog a treat and plenty of praise and kept saying the word speak when he barked. I stopped the treats and kept on with the praise and using the word speak and eventually just using the work speak was enough to get her to bark. to get the dog to bark initially I would use something to get his attention, like knocking the door or rattling the letter box, something that he barks at on his own.
It will take a few days but it is fairly easy.
Treats in combination with an action causing the dog to bark and saying "speak", or whatever trigger you want to indicate this action, should help teach it.
Only one of my two will speak on command and she learned it from her first owner - I adopted her. A friend of mine had a Boston that would only "speak" on command for her dad, no one else. He started teaching Midge by lunging at her to get her to bark, otherwise she really only barked at the neighborhood cats when they came into her yard.
This will sound silly but I used treats and I would bark at him till he barked and I would then give him the treat. He caught on in within a few treats.

I cant get my two dogs to speak on command to save their own lives. They are stubborn. Weve sat many many times, on a daily basis, with me barking and saying speak, having my son ring the doorbell and knock on the door. They just stare at me with their cute little eyes and tails wagging.

At the time your dog is barking (for whatever reason), keep repeating your command and giving lots of praise/treats.your dog will soon catch on. You need to be enthusiastic and be persistant. and reward only while the dog is actually barking ---timing is very important.
I think using the command "say" instead of speak is better. Its a cool trick to be able to get your dog to say thankyou or say goodbye!

Answers:
Your dog is only doing what comes naturally, what you need to do is make yourself the centre of his universe!! Practise training the recall when there are no distractions and where you can safely get him back.
If he is toy orientated use a favourite toy, call him and when he comes, gives him lots of praise and play with him with the toy.
If he is food orientated use a treat that he loves, not biscuits something soft, chopped up cocktail sausages are good or little bits of cheese, same as with the toy call him back too you, loads of praise and reward him.
Dogs are real opportunists and will always ask whats in it for me?
Once he is recalling to you whenever you call than start to introduce distractions.

You and your dog need to go to obedience training. You can find classes through your local K-9 club. A good instructor will teach you how to work your dog on and off the leash.
You need to go back to basics. He thinks he can come back to you when he wants and on his terms. Keep him on a long line and MAKE him come back when you call him. Reward him with magnanimous praise or a treat when he does it correctly. Next time he doesnt come STRAIGHT back you go and get him, put him on the lead and walk him right home. Punishment is No obedience, no walkies!

I have this problem with my dog,we seem to be making progress though as the other day he ignored a dog!! Dont feed him for a day, this may sound cruel but it is better than him running off into a busy road when distracted.
The next day, take some food he loves, preferably meat, not dog biscuits with you to the park and wait until other dogs are nearby.
Give him some meat and let him off the lead. Throw a ball and call him over and give him more meat. Feed him a whole meal by repeating this with other dogs nearby. This way he will associate you calling him with the meat you fed him. Next time a dog comes and you call, he will think of meat and will come back to you.

im really not sure if its easier to have two females or two males.

that would depend on if you planned on breeding and their pedigree if you are breeding and they are purebreed 2 females and he can service them both. if you are not going to breed than Male cause they are alot better at getting along together
If they are neutered and spayed, it really shouldnt matter as long as you neuter or spay the third dog.
Hard to say. Im assuming the others are neutered and spayed. My expereince seems to be that female dogs have a harder time working out pack order than male dogs.

If they are neutered or spayed, it really shouldnt matter. If they are not neutered or spayed rather get a female, you would not want to many male hormones in one yard this could cause fights.

I have three males and two females, all small, and all altered.
The males decided who was who long ago and it was a done deal. My females are less defined in the pack they, bully the males and often are jealous of one another.
Personal opinion would be another altered male.
However, much of what I have read about this issue suggests that females will get along easier.
I guess it depends on the dog, but like I said, if it were me Id get a male.

get it neutered and then train it not to.

Either train from an early age not to do that, or neuter it.
Neutering often helps, but it does not always stop it. Distraction works well, but when they are not neutered little will stop it. Even females do it. It is often a dominance thing.
The cure is to get him neuterd! It is so much better for him! He will be happier, calmer, and less likely to go around serching for things (and girl dogs) to hump. He also wont get a testical desese. And unless the person was a profesional breeder, it is the best thing to do.

This is actually considered a show of dominance and can be a possible behavioral problem.
Neutering or spaying the animal may not permanently resolve the issue, but it will help.
Youll also want to establish dominance in the household, and apply the appropriate corrective measure to help fix this kind of behavior.
