I asked a question about my dog barking she is only a year old

She barks at anyone smaller than her or same height I have tried the bottles shock collars are in humane aprt from that she is a good dog she just hates men and kids her same height and under why please help me

this will NOT work
to me personally, dog sprays collars, and other gadgets like that are made for very serious problem dogs, not just for a barking dog, some people are sooo lazy, if there dog dosent do what he/she wants, they get a spray/electric collar, what happened to good old fashion dog training, it takes time SAM, sounds like you need to socialise her more, take her to parks (on the lead of course) sit with her, when she barks a tug on the collar, eye contact and a firm No, you have to be persistent Sam, if this dosent work, take her to dog behaviour training school, it might cost you about ?30 for 6 week course, it will be well worth it, they will also help you with other traits.
Just a bit of info for you Sam, Bi tches are much more protective, in her own little way she is saying get away from my master, or i will bite, you have to let her know that you dont need protecting all the time..
I am going through the same thing with 1 of my dogs at the moment, it takes time. Wish you well, good luck Sam. :-)

its possible that she has had an incident with a small child or man prehaps in the back yard while you were away kids can be mean. you need to start over with her and work alittle at a time with a child or man you trust and retrain her to trust. it might not seem aggresive now but if you let this cont. it could get worse and she could end up biting out of fear or nerveness

It wont be any fun for your dog going through life hating kids and men, so training her now will give her a happier doggy future.

You can live happily with a well-trained dog, but it is going to take a lot of work on your part. Dogs can be such wonderful, affectionate companions but lets face something, they are just more lovable when they are well-behaved. Even the cutest, sweetest dog can really be a big nuisance if not trained properly.

Sometimes he or she may repeatedly mark its territory behind your couch, make your kitchen floor its regular potty area or dig up your neighbors flower bed. Aside from the messes that you will continuously have to clean up, an untrained or disobedient dog can cause you huge embarrassment if it does not behave well with guests or with other pets around.

Train your dog effectively by educating yourself. Before you can have a well-trained dog, you must first become a well-informed owner. The number one thing you need to know is that most dogs, if untrained, behave exactly how they are supposed to behave, like dogs!

You cannot expect a dog to be intelligent enough as to naturally know what is or is not acceptable pet behavior. That is why it is very important to provide your pet with proper dog obedience training as early in its life as possible. Doing so will instill good habits in him from a young age and he will be much easier to handle as he grows older.

In fact, it is every dogs nature to please its owner. So if you have the knowledge you will find that your dog can be very receptive to training. Do not be overwhelmed by the thought of doing the dog training yourself. You do not need to teach him circus tricks or anything but just basic behavior and practical commands. Later on, you will learn more fundamentals about dog training such as communication. Establishing good communication with your dog is essential. And you being the leader, you will have to set your own shared language that your dog will learn to understand and heed.

Simple commands like sit, stay and fetch are among the most common words you can use as part of this shared language. But there are far plenty more, and when she learns to understand how you want her to behave, the more you will love her for it. That is virtually guaranteed!

she was prescribed weeks course antibiotics. other symptoms gained during last 3 weeks - heavy breathing, lack of interest in food, tired. On saturday her breathing was really bad , we brought her to the Vet hospital and she died just as we pulled up. I think she had a more serious illness and not kennel cough at all. Other symptoms were going no. 2 alot. and coughing specks of blood a little. has anyone else had this experience. She was gold labrador 11 and a half years. Thank you.

Without knowing more, Id have to agree with ann a.

Bordatella by itself is typically a relatively mild infection and will often go away on its own. But, many dogs are susceptible to opportunistic infections, which is likely why your vet gave the antibiotics. Antibiotics wont cure Bordatella (kennel cough) but it hopefully will keep other infections from setting in, which in this case it didnt seem to be enough treatment. Pneumonia, which is not the same thing as the flu, and is in fact a "symptom" itself of a variety of lung infections, often sets up in sick, especially old, dogs, and it is difficult to treat.

your dog has dog flue and yes if y dont treat it your dog will die. My moms dog had it 2 years ago and she died because of it they told us their was nothing wrong and when we looked up dog flue she had all the symptoms. the symptoms are coughing dont eat cant get comfy runny nose

Sounds to me like she definately had something more going on than just kennel cough. Sometimes things like cancer dont present themselves until it is too late. That is what happened to my bulldog. He had a tumor bleeding out on his spleen.
The vet probably did the best they could without some really aggressive x rays, sonograms or something like that - did they do all of that and bloodwork too?

I believe your dog did only have kennel cough. Considering the age of your dog, the disease caused an infection that most likely poisoned his blood. I do apologize for your loss, and i know how it feels to loose a dog to Kennel Cough. My first dog died at 2 years from it.

Kennel cough" which is bordatella is an opportunistic infection. It allows the invasion of other infections that make the animal sicker - things such as bronchial condition - bronchitis/pneumonia.

Bordatella is NOT the flu. It is a respiratory infection.

Think of the sequence of events as a human getting a virus that turns into bronchitis that turns into pneumonia.

do you have ticks? did your dog also have bloody nose on occation? if so it could have been tick fever, dogs cough, with blood, tick fever makes them go into d.i.c. which is in simple terms like taking to much blood thinners and they bleed internally and from every where. sorry for your loss, i have had many dogs and lost many to, it is a sad thing.

How To Teach Your Dog to Bark on Command

In one of my previous articles we spoke about how teaching your dog to bark on command was all that you needed to ward off any wayward humans looking for trouble.

I am a firm believer that a good bark is all that you need to make your dog appear scary to onlookers.

This is not to be taken lightly and by no means am I encouraging you to have your dog bark AT people! Instead you will just be teaching your dog to bark on voice command and then with a tiny inconspicuous hand signal.

Your dog should never equate people and aggressive behavior!

If you teach your dog to be protective in general you can end up with some very serious behavior problems and a dangerous dog.

But, if you teach your dog to simply bark when asked it can keep attackers at bay.

What You Need:

• A long line or a tie out
• Something like a tree to attach the tie out to
• A toy
• A Pole and some String
• Your Dog

Getting Started:

Never ever leave Your Dog Tethered while Unattended.

Frustration often leads to barking, so we are going to use some frustration to teach your dog or your puppy to bark on command.

Take a long line or a tie down and attaching it to something secure, like a tree or a fence post. You will NEVER leave your dog tied out unattended!!

Attach your dog by his wide buckle collar (never use a choke chain, prong collar or head halter) or (better) a harness to the tie down.

Tie his toy to a short pole (PVC pipe, broom stick, etc.) with the string.

Now dangle the toy in front of your dog, whipping it back and forth just out of reach of your dog.

This should be frustrating and at some point your dog is very likely to bark at the toy.

As soon as your dog barks, reward him by allowing him dog to grab and play with the toy for a moment or two.

Then ask him to “Drop It”.

This Dog nearly does a Back Flip for this Ball on a string!

Continue playing this game until your dog is regularly barking.

Now you can add the command “Bark” and if he does so, reward him by playing!

Once he has learned to bark on command you can begin teaching him a small hand signal.

As you say the command show him the hand signal. I bump my thumb against my other fingers, like a dog barking when I say the command.

Later I can drop the verbal command and just touch my fingers together. My dog should have learned to bark like wild-fire until I tell him “quiet”.

This behavior alone helps make me feel secure, and my dog is learning to use his voice on my terms and not directed at any one person. My dog thinks he is barking to play or later for a treat so no aggression is tagged to the behavior!

This can be great fun, and can lead to keeping your loud dog “quiet” as you learn to tell him when it is and when it is not appropriate to bark.
