I made a mistake and let my dog get pregnant Will Bob Barker forgive medog training

I never had a female dog before so when I saw her in a pet shop I thought I would rescue her from her horrible conditions. Then a few weeks later I rescued a stray that was emaciated and scarred. He had scratches all over him. I thought he would die. I had no idea such a small dog could impregnate a large dog. It was a foolish mistake and now she is pregnant. I didnt know they had periods either, totaly disgusting. I didnt want to get her spaded until after she was one year old (this month) because I think it takes away there puppiness. I know they say it doesnt effect there character but it does. Well, now shes pregnant and Im contributing to the pet over population. Im sorry, but what can I do now? Dog abortion? What should I do with the puppies? I feel bad because I thought I was a responsible dog owner. Any ideas?

Its spayed not spaded :-)

Just so you know for the future, it is best to have a female dog spayed before she comes into season for the first time. This is the most effective way to prevent her getting mammary tumours in the future - with every season she has she is increasing her chance of getting mammary cancer. Take it from someone who has seen literally hundreds of dogs spayed or castrated at 6 months of age - it certainly does NOT take away their puppiness! I think many people will come on here and tell you that.

OK, here are your options. If shes not too far along in her pregnancy, you can have the puppies aborted by a vet, but its not going to be particularly cheap. This can be done by spaying her, or there is an injections available which can be used up until mid-term I think. You might want to enquire about this with a vet, if its the route you want to go down.

If you decide to let her have the puppies, do get veterinary support. It sounds like youve learned now that you cant go into these things without doing your research first! Youll need to know what to expect during her pregnancy (feed her puppy food until the pups are weaned), what problems she might experience during birth that you need to look out for, and proper flea/worm/vaccination regimes for the pups. They should not leave their mother before 8 weeks of age, preferably 12. Youll also need to find good homes for those you are not going to keep, of course.

Chalice
Take her to the vet and they can spay her now then you wont have to worry about being no better then the people you rescued them from.
Be responsible here. Its not to late. Spay her this week and get him neutered while your at it.
If you think spaying her now will take away her puppiness. what the heck do you think making her have a litter would do?
Just spay her and stop coming up with excuses.
Well what you should do is let her go through laber then whenthe puppies are atleast 6months old sell them but keep only one so the mother wont die of lonlyness(speaking from experience)
find them good homes and as far as bob barker being mad at u yes he is andi diubt hell forgive u lol
Luckily Bob Barker is off the air now, although he did warn you.
The word is spayed, not spaded. I recommend trying to get rid of the puppies by giving them away. A couple of hours in a busy store parking lot can usually get rid of the ugliest puppies. Of course, youre stuck with them until she weans them.
You could also put an ad in the paper to get rid of them. As a last resort, most SPCA places will take unwanted pets, but sometime there is a fee.
Mr. Troll, if you were a responsble pet owner, youd know female dogs had heats. If you were a responsble dog owner, you would be asking these questions and telling your very sad story to a veterinarian, someone who can actually provide help.
Just an FYI - by her going into her first heat her chances of cancer went up 50%. While getting her spayed will prevent other problems, it will not diminish her risk of mammary tumors.

If she is only a couple weeks pregnant - get her spayed now immediately. If she is well into term than I would not advise it. I am assuming your vet has determined she is pregnant so she must be well into it.

What a shame. So has he now been neutered? It sometimes takes up to 2 months for the hormones to stop flowing %26 yes they can get a female pregnant after theyve been neutered during that time if conditions are right.
People make mistakes and I think you have learned by yours. I dont know how long she is in her pregnancy, but if shes too far along let her have the puppies and as soon as they are born let your vet as well as everyone, know you want to find loving home for them; but they will need to be with their mother for 7 to 8 weeks, before they can be weened. Youre going to have a lot of work ahead of you. Having puppies is no picnic. If youre keeping her pregnant ask your vet what supplements you should be giving her, find out what you are going to need for instants a whelping box for one. No matter what you need to have your male neutered ASAP. What happened to you is the reason people need to be educated. So please spread the word as to what you have experienced. Bob Barker would be very pleased with you for doing that. Good luck;^)
You need to have your dog checked by a Veterinarian if she is not too far along she could be spayed. The age of your dogs is also a concern if she is still a puppy then her having pups could put a big strain on her still growing body. If you do decide to let her have the pups please DO NOT give them away for free. Charge a small adoption fee to cover food and shots etc. Too often animals given up for free end up in the wrong hands, this is how animal abusers and horders get their next victim. You might also want to contact a local rescue or shelter to see if they will take the pups to place. Pups can be weaned between 4-6 weeks but should remain with the litter till at least 8 weeks of age. I do recommend getting your male neutered once he is he cant impregnate any dog. He may try to but once neutered fatherhood is out of the picture. Living with a neutered male is just so much easier.
A responsible dog owner would educate themselves about their dogs...start there...
You can still have her Spayed safely at this point and time. Please do so. Then read up on Dog Care and History. Sounds like you need to learn a few things.
