How To Train a Dog To Stay | dog training phoenix
Training a Dog To Stay- The first step you need to follow to have your dog stay, is command it to sit.
- Once your dog is sitting, come around to face it. Put the palm of your left hand close to the dogs muzzle, and sternly say "stay!"
- At first only have your dog stay for a few seconds. Take one step away from your dog, and if your dog stays, say "good stay!" if your dog moves, then start again by leading your dog to the same position it was in before and try again.
- If your dog completes this exercise, dont be trying for too long, because your dog isnt used to staying, and it might think of it as a bad thing, like you are wanting to ignore it.
- When you are practicing more of this command the next day, slowly increase the distance and time.
- The most time that your dog will probably end up staying for is somewhere around three minutes. Since different breeds have different amounts of attention span, three minutes is about average for most breeds.
Fun Fact: It has been proven that people who have dogs, live longer, have fewer heart attacks, and less stress.
